Inclusion, Community, Acceptance

The Special Olympics is a nonprofit organization that emphasizes the importance of inclusion and acceptance of all people, especially those with a disability. They provide athletes with a fun, loving, and welcoming environment where they can express themselves through the sports they love to play.

The UNC Special Olympics branch holds sporting events throughout the school year such as flag football, bowling, and kickball. UNC students are able to volunteer to play with the athletes and develop special friendships.

“I wish for a world that views disability, mental or physical, not as a hindrance but as unique attributes that can be seen as powerful assets if given the right opportunities.” – Oliver Sacks
